5:06 pm - Ob la di ob la da life goes on yeeah
I am sitting on a google-themed beanbag in the charlotte airport. My boyfriend is across the Atlantic as usual and I have the same ringtone as the shoe shine dude. Life is absurd.

5:21 am - The zoobirds.
"Rocky Barnette, formerly the executive sous-chef at the Inn at Little Washington, in Virginia (and now with a nonprofit called Food & Water Watch), has raised five pigs, feeding them a local restaurant’s vegetarian food scraps. Two days earlier he’d slaughtered one in a way that sounds especially Texan: feeding it two Mexican beers before shooting it between the eyes."--NYTimes article on Marfa, Texas.

9:42 pm - I tried to do handstands for you, but every time I fell for you.
Editing my little brother's paper. Opened it to read:

"In today’s day and age, with children sitting around on their couches getting fat, playing video games and eating junk food, the battle to introduce children to nature and the natural world is rapidly being lost to the CEOs of multinational food and video game companies that convince children with the use of their propaganda to stay inside and waste away on their couches playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. "

as the first sentence.

This is going to be good.

4:34 pm - Too good NOT to nitpick.
From a livejournal community:

"Good luck with it, though. Dying is an awesome skill to have. Also, if you don't have a laundry room to work in, you may want to look into picking up a big, cheap plastic tub to do your dying in, or clean out something you already have. That way, you could do your dying somewhere other than the tub."

They were talking about dyeing clothes, but left out the E, and I found it hilarious to think that dying might be "an awesome skill to have" (perhaps I could put it on my CV?) and it would be preferable to "do your dying somewhere other than the tub."

Today while taking notes in CompSci I accidentally wrote down "monotony" instead of "monopoly."

Coincidence? I think not.

2:02 am - İyi geceler.
Oh Turkey, I miss you. Early morning calls to prayer, various butcherings of the English language, simit for 50 cents on the street corner. I never thought I would miss Istanbul so acutely, but there you have it. Life hits you in unexpected ways.

12:06 am - Someone just came to my room to get an egg to make pancakes. It's 1 in the AM.
Beşiktaş team must have just won a huge game. I can hear people yelling in unison outside my window. They will probably start joyously rioting soon, as that seems to be the norm whenever they win any game. They take over Istiklal, carrying flags and huge torches and chanting their victory.

2:38 am - Please tell me you need me.
My room is filled with reminders of youthful carelessness--half smoked packs of marlboros, dirty clothes, chickpeas in front of my computer. My drunken state of mind. I'm not sure I would trade my life for the world, not even for Daniel with me here right now, because I wouldn't give this experience up for anything.

Though I do miss him more than even I can imagine. I miss my real life, not the one I live in three or four month periods, but the one that provides consistency. I'm glad to be going back to school next year. I think I need it.

current mood: calm

6:18 pm - You're in my blood like holy wine.
Since I have completely failed in any and all attempt to get work done, this will have to do.

The culmination of my procrastination. )

That's all for today.

I go home in almost a month, which seems crazy to me. I feel like I don't know Istanbul at all! I am also going to a folk dance performance tonight, and I got an A- on my second Turkish midterm :D

current mood: quixotic

11:46 pm - So it goes.
My old ipod (Jeanette Isabella) died on me quite suddenly the other day. Listening to the death groans of an ipod is no fun--it actually made this strange grinding noise and wouldn't stop. But! My family has brought me a new one, which I have christened Sophia Irene, and it is an ipod touch, which means it has fascinating games on it. I have spent most of the night going over readings for my Byzantine art midterm tomorrow, but I have also been obsessively checking to see if my fish on Fish Tycoon have grown up yet so I can sell them.

This could be a problem.
